A Marine of the 15th Expeditionary Unit based at Camp Pendleton is reportedly dead, 2 injured and 8 others missing as at the time of this report.
This incident that led to the death of the Marine and unknown whereabouts of the others was due to a periodic training exercise making use of assault amphibious vehicles on the Southern California coast on Thursday.
As of early Friday, there was search and rescue effort, which is still ongoing to locate the other missing Marines. Joint efforts by the US Navy and Coastguard are underway to rescue survivors
The commanding officer of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Colonel Christopher Bronzi, stated on Twitter that; “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. I ask that you keep our Marines, sailors and their families in your prayers as we continue our search,”
