Pablo Escobar Former Top Hitman “Popeye” Dies of Cancer

Pablo Escobar: A man known to be Pablo Escobar’s former chief hitman is dead.

Jhon Jairo Velasquez, popularly known as “Popeye” died of stomach cancer after being admitted at the National Institute of Cancer in Bogotá, Colombia on December 31.

Velasquez eventually died on February 6 after battling cancer.

Known as one of the most dreaded hitmen for Escobar, Popeye once confessed to the killings of over 300 people in Colombia on behalf of the cartel run by Pablo Escobar.

After serving 23 years in prison for offenses related to drug trafficking, Velasquez was released from prison in August 2014.

He is alleged to have threatened Colombian presidential candidate Gustavo Petro and his followers repeatedly, which prompted an investigation to be carried on him by the Office of Colombian Attorney General.
